Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about GST calculation

GST is calculated by applying the applicable GST rate to the taxable value of goods or services. For exclusive GST, GST amount = (Original price x GST rate) / 100, and Net price = Original price + GST amount. For inclusive GST, the GST amount is extracted from the total using GST amount = Original price − [Original price × (100 / (100 + GST rate))].

CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST) apply equally on intra-state transactions, with each being exactly half of the total GST rate. IGST (Integrated GST) applies on inter-state transactions and equals the full combined GST rate, collected by the central government and apportioned to the destination state.

Following the GST reforms effective September 2025, India primarily uses a simplified two-tier structure of 5% and 18%, with a special 40% rate for luxury and sin goods, and 0% for essential exempted items. Some legacy categories may still reference the earlier 12% and 28% slabs during the transition period.

Exclusive GST means the entered amount does not include GST, so GST is added on top to get the final price. Inclusive GST means the entered amount already includes GST, so the calculator extracts the GST portion from within that total.

Yes. Selecting intra-state splits the GST equally into CGST and SGST, while selecting inter-state shows the full amount as IGST, matching how GST is actually charged on invoices in India.
